Tesla workers in Shanghai will sleep in the factory

Tesla workers in Shanghai will sleep in the factory.

Tesla is forcing its workers to sleep on the floor of its factory in Shanghai, China, while carmaker Elon Musk resumes production in China amid a severe blockage due to the coronavirus.

The company is providing staff with sleeping bags and mattresses as they are being forced to live in the factory as part of the blockade measures imposed by the state.

In a staff memo, Tesla laid out strict guidelines for those returning to the factory, including three COVID-19 tests a day, temperature control twice a day, and hand washing four times a day. This comes after officials in Shanghai encouraged companies to resume production after the ‘closed’ city systems.

Tesla staff will be provided with three meals a day and will be given a compensation of around 48 pounds a day.

However, given that the factory has no dormitories, workers will be required to sleep on the floor in a designated area, while other spaces, which have not yet been completed, will be allocated for showering, entertainment and dining.
