Shevchenko: My family is trapped in a basement

Andriy Shevchenko described the severe destruction in Ukraine as a result of the war and confirmed that some of his family members are still trapped in the country.

Russia attacked Ukraine just over two weeks ago, wreaking havoc on the country after tanks and soldiers pushed inside, led by a barrage of missiles. The former coach of Genoa and Ukraine has been very open on the subject, providing regular updates on his nation and the difficulties his compatriots face.

Shevchenko described the devastation caused by the Russian war and the danger to his mother and sister.

“There have been many battles. My mother and sister welcomed some people who transferred with them because they were in terrible conditions. In Bucha there is no food, no electricity. “My sister’s friends are there and they lived five days underground in a basement.”

“There have been horrific bombings in that area. Bucha and the neighboring towns of Irpin and Hostomel have been completely destroyed. There are no buildings left. I went to Bucha to train when I was a young player. “It’s terrible.”

“Humanitarian corridors were attacked by Russian soldiers. “If my mother and sister tried to leave, I think it would be more dangerous for them,” added the football legend.
