German Chancellor Olaf Scholz on Tuesday pledged to send more Gepard anti-aircraft tanks to Ukraine.

“We will continue to work to ensure that system is very efficient,” Scholz said during a joint press conference with the world’s financial and economic organizations.

The chancellor condemned the continued bombing and assured Ukrainians of further aid, government spokesman Steffen Hebestreit said.

“The Ukrainian president has expressed gratitude for Germany’s very comprehensive support in monetary terms, but also in terms of arms deliveries, because the artillery and air defense systems we provide have a very significant impact on Ukraine’s ability to guarantee the integrity and its sovereignty”, Scholz told reporters.

To date, the German government has provided short-term financial assistance for the repair of energy infrastructure in the amount of about 56 million euros, Hebestreit said in the press release. Germany is also providing over 350 generators as Ukraine suffers power outages due to Russian shelling.

The chancellor reiterated Germany’s continued support for Ukraine, including air defense and long-term reconstruction.

Scholz said Germany’s offer of its Patriot air defense system to Poland was not off the table after the stray missiles hit the country on November 15.
