Samsung says it will triple its chip production by 2027

Samsung Electronics‘ chipmaking business has announced plans to more than triple its chipmaking capacity by 2027 to meet growing demand.

The world’s second largest factory after Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co aims to mass produce 2 nanometer advanced technology chips by 2025 and 1.4 nm chips by 2027.

Samsung began mass production of chips with 3nm technology in June.

The company was in talks with potential customers for a 3-nm collaboration, including Qualcomm, Tesla and Advanced Micro Devices, Samsung said.

Samsung, the world’s largest maker of memory chips, has struggled to meet customer expectations for foundry yields in recent years.
