Russia is using mines in that are banned by law.

According to Human Rights Watch, Russian forces fighting in Ukraine have used mines banned by law in the eastern Kharkiv region.

This international organization has announced that the banned mines have been located by Ukrainian demining units.

“Russia is known for possessing such mines that can kill people within a 16-meter radius,” the HRW statement said, adding that Ukraine does not possess such infantry mines.

“Countries around the world should condemn Russia for using such mines in Ukraine,” said Steve Goose, director of Human Rights Watch.

Mines of this type have been banned by law since 1997 – meaning they should not be used, produced or collected in landfills.

Russia is not a member of an agreement reached between 164 countries.
