Progress between Russia and Ukraine on wheat export.

Military delegations from Ankara, Kiev, Moscow and UN representatives met in Istanbul on Wednesday to discuss the shipment of grain and food products.

The delegations addressed the safe shipment of grain that was in the ports of Ukraine, which is in the midst of an ongoing war with Russia, according to a statement from Turkey’s Ministry of National Defense.

The Minister of Defense of Turkey, Hulusi Akar, stated that in the quadrilateral meeting for Ukrainian wheat, it was agreed to create a coordination center in Istanbul where the representatives of the parties will be located.

“In the quadrilateral meeting, an agreement was reached on technical issues such as joint controls at the points of departure and arrival at the port, as well as guaranteeing safety during the movement of ships at sea,” said the Turkish minister and added “As a result, the agreement on the basic principles has meaning for us too. We see that the parties are ready to solve this problem. We will try to reach a conclusion by doing this in coordination with the UN.”

He said that “next week, the Ukrainian and Russian delegations will meet again in Turkey and all the details will be discussed”.

Otherwise, nearly 4,900 civilians have been killed in Ukraine since the start of the war on February 24, according to UN figures.

Over 15 million people have been forced to flee their homes, including more than 8.4 million who have fled to other countries.
