Massive wildfires spread in California

A wildfire has spread rapidly in Northern California, injuring several people and destroying several homes, forcing thousands to evacuate.

Aided by 56 km/h winds, the fire had destroyed 10 square kilometers of land by Friday evening.

Many places in the area have been left without electricity. About 9,000 customers, many of them in Vid, were affected by a power outage just before 1pm yesterday, according to the power company, which said it was the result of a fire.

The fire service announced that several people were injured in the fire.

In southern California, firefighters continued to battle two large wildfires yesterday despite dangerous weather conditions. The number of buildings destroyed remained at two, and all evacuation orders were lifted.

More than 1,500 people had to be evacuated from the area near the US-Mexico border when the fire broke out on Wednesday. Two people were hospitalized with burns. Three houses and seven other buildings were destroyed.

California is under the influence of a prolonged heat wave. Temperatures are so high that it affects electrical stability due to greater use of cooling equipment, so residents are asked to conserve electricity during the late afternoon and evening hours.
