Lightning strikes four people near the White House

Lightning strikes four people near the White House.

Four people were seriously injured when they were struck by lightning near the White House on Thursday night.

Two women and two men suffered during a powerful storm in Lafayette Park in Washington, fire crews have announced.

Considering that the park is located not far from the White House, lightning struck near a tree that is surrounded by the White House complex – and the unlucky people were helped by Secret Service personnel.

“We quickly managed to send them to the nearest hospitals. All of them have suffered serious injuries – which are life-threatening”, said the firefighters.

After the incident, the local authorities have closed a part of the park.

The National Meteorological Service for the Washington region last night warned of severe weather, and investigations will show whether the injured knew about this warning and what they were doing in the park when they were struck by lightning.
