Japan, Australia and the US condemn China’s exercises

Japanese Minister of Defense Hamada Yasukazu, US Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin and Deputy Australia’s prime minister and defense minister Richard Marles condemned China’s actions during August drills near Taiwan in which ballistic missiles landed in Japan’s exclusive economic zone, Japan’s defense ministry announced today.

The ministers confirmed the intention of Japan, the US and Australia to “expand and strengthen training and activities, as well as promote defense equipment and technological cooperation”.

Hamada, Austin and Marles agreed that they should coordinate the strategies of the three countries for continued close cooperation in order to achieve a free and open Indo-Pacific.
