India launched a rocket carrying 36 private internet satellites on Saturday.

The launch from southern India was the first launch for London-based OneWeb since ending cooperation with the Russian space agency in March over Russia’s attack on Ukraine.

“We sent (the rocket) into orbit very accurately, now the rocket is in the target orbit,” said S. Somanath, president of the Indian space agency.

OneWeb now has 462 satellites in flight, which is 70 percent more than the company needs to provide broadband services around the world.

The company said it remains on track to achieve global coverage next year with a planned constellation of 648 satellites.
