Google is closing the ‘Panel’ for Assistant Driving Mode

Google

Earlier this week, Google told us that the Maps integration in “Assistant Driving Mode” is going away. The company’s confirmation after a “sunset” announcement we spotted in the Google app turned out to be incorrect, and Google now tells us it’s shutting down the entire mod panel that was made available at I/O 2019.

Google initially told us it was shutting down the Maps card that appears at the top of the driving mode dashboard, which launched more than a year ago.

Google now tells us that it will shut down the entire Assistant Driving Mode panel on November 21st.

This home screen features media suggestions and quick access to audio controls, as well as shortcuts for calling and sending messages.

This access either from a home screen shortcut or “Hey Google, start driving mode”.

The car-optimized experience in Google Maps for Android, which Google also refers to as “Driving Mode,” isn’t going away.

The company is focusing on this and finds that most people are using it anyway.
