Bruno Fernandes refuses to answer about Ronaldo’s situation

Bruno Fernandes refused to comment on Cristiano Ronaldo’s current condition after Manchester United’s dramatic 1-1 draw with Chelsea.

The Portuguese was left out of United’s squad that traveled to Stamford Bridge on Saturday as punishment after he refused to come on as a substitute before leaving Old Trafford at the start of the midweek win over Tottenham.

Erik ten Hag’s side put in an impressive first-half display in Ronaldo’s absence, but they faded after the break and were light on attacking options to turn the game around.

Manchester United issued a statement on Thursday evening stressing that Ronaldo would not be part of the traveling squad for Saturday’s game and Fernandes was reluctant to discuss the situation after the final whistle.

“We don’t talk about it, we keep it quiet inside,” Fernandes declared after being asked about Ronaldo. “We have to deal with this internally, no one should know what we think, want or what will happen. We don’t know, the most important thing for everyone, including Cristiano, is for the team to win.”

Unsurprisingly, Ronaldo’s status dominated the pre-match narrative – but there were contrasting views on how the situation was handled.
