The number of confirmed cases of Ebola in Uganda has risen to 109 and so far 30 people have died from the disease, Health Minister Jane Ruth Asseng said today.
She stated that the government is establishing an additional center for the treatment of Ebola patients in Mulago, in addition to the five already existing, so that hospital treatment can be provided to 351 patients.
The Minister of Health said at the press conference that 15 health workers fell ill with Ebola, six of whom died.
Asseng noted that her ministry will evaluate the effectiveness of three Ebola vaccines in the coming weeks, one of which was developed by the University of Oxford, while the other two were developed in the US.
The Ebola virus circulating in Uganda originated in Sudan and there is no proven vaccine for that virus.
