South African president at the center of the corruption scandal

South Africa

South African President Cyril Ramaphosa will not resign despite the scandal involving money stolen from his farm, his spokesman Vincent Magëenya has announced.

He had hidden significant amounts of money in his private farm, and then tried to hide their theft.

The scandal occurred in June when former South African secret service chief Arthur Fraser filed a police report accusing the president of covering up the theft of $4 million in cash from his farm in 2020.

Ramaphosa has admitted that the money has been stolen, but he has emphasized that it is 580 thousand dollars, not four million, and that it was money from the sale of bulls.

However, it was announced in court that there were doubts as to whether the sale of bulls actually took place.

And these accusations are extremely damaging to Ramaphosa, who came to power promising to fight the corruption in which his country was deeply mired.

Today and tomorrow the ruling party, the African National Congress (ANC) of which Ramaphosa is president, will meet to decide on the next steps.
