Vladimir Putin is open to talks on a possible settlement in Ukraine, but the United States’ refusal to recognize the annexed territories as Russian is hampering a search for a possible compromise.
US President Joe Biden said Thursday that he was willing to talk to the Russian president if the Kremlin chief would end the war, but that Putin had given no indication that he was ready.
“The president of the Russian Federation has always been, is and remains open to negotiations that guarantee our interests,” Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters when asked about Biden’s comments.
“The most preferred way to achieve our interests is through peaceful, diplomatic means,” Peskov said.
“Putin was, is and remains open to contacts and negotiations”, he concluded.
Otherwise, Russia started the invasion of the Ukrainian state on February 24, causing casualties and material damage.
