Japan caused a sensation by defeating Spain with the result 2-1, like Germany, to advance as the first group, while the Spaniards, thanks to a goal difference, advance as the second.
The match started with a chance for Japan, where Junya Ito shot, but hit the post.
Spain managed to score in the first good chance, Cesar Azpilicueta darting into the area and finding Alavaro Morata who headed home 1-0.
The first half did not bring any more chances and ended with the Spaniards leading the way.
As the second half began Japan managed to equalize when Ritsu Doan fired beautifully from long range to make it 1-1.
Just two minutes later, the Japanese scored once again, when from a ball that was almost off the line, Mitoma manages to catch it and assist Ao Tanaka who scored for 2-1.
After three minutes the goal was considered regular and the Japanese players started celebrating.
The rest of the match was played by the Spaniards, who were good at keeping the ball, but not at all creating chances.
Marco Asensio fired a shot in the 89th minute, but Japanese goalkeeper Shuichi Gonda was on the spot.
Dani Olmo also had a good chance after him in the 90th minute, but again Gonda saved the shot.
Seven extra minutes of play yielded nothing and Japan with six points goes first in the group, while Spain with four points goes second, thanks to the goal difference.
