Dramatic images have emerged showing people the massive fire that broke out at a hotel casino overnight in Cambodia.

As a result, there are at least 16 dead, a number that may increase.

The fire, which broke out at the Grand Diamond City Casino and Hotel in Poipet around midnight on Wednesday, raged for about 14 hours before being put out.

The property is located just hundreds of meters from the country’s border with Thailand.

The Department of Fire Prevention, Suppression and Rescue said calls for help were heard from the 13th, 14th and 15th floors at 04:00 and hands were seen waving from windows as well as a mobile phone flashlight. that signaled from inside the complex.

“The fire was massive and it was inside the casino, so it was difficult for the water to reach there,” said a firefighter.

The province’s deputy governor, Ngor Meng Chroun, said the death toll had reached 16, with around 50 others injured.

Meanwhile, Banteay Meanchey’s police chief announced that 360 emergency personnel and 11 fire trucks were sent to the scene of the fire, the cause of which is still unknown.

The casino had about 400 employees.
