Russian businessman Yevgeny Prigozhin said on Monday that he had interfered in the US election and will continue to do so in the future.
This is considered the first such admission by a figure who has been officially implicated in efforts to influence American politics, foreign media write.
“We have interfered (in the US elections), we are interfering and we will continue to interfere. Carefully, correctly,… – as we know how to do”, he was quoted as saying.
His statement is posted on the eve of the US midterm elections in response to a request for comment from a Russian news site.
Prigozhin is often referred to as “Putin’s chef” because his catering company operates under Kremlin contracts.
Otherwise, foreign media recall, in July, the US State Department offered a reward of up to 10 million US dollars for information on Prigozhin regarding “engagement in US election interference”.
It has been hit by US, UK and European Union sanctions.
Prigozhin has kept a low public profile until recently, but has become more outspoken over the course of the war in Ukraine, including criticizing the performance of Russian generals.
In September, he admitted to founding the Kremlin-linked Wagner Group mercenary organization, which is active in Syria, Africa and Ukraine.
Last Friday, it opened a center in St. Petersburg, another step by Prigozhin to emphasize his military credentials.
