Pique: It’s not a goodbye – I was born here, I’ll die here

Camp Nou

Gerard Pique has played his last game as a Barcelona player at Camp Nou and his farewell was very emotional starting with tears and ending with joy.

Saturday night’s match between Barcelona and Almeria, which ended 2-0, will not soon be forgotten by the Blaugrana, or the football world as a whole.

The result was secondary. Instead, it’s because this match marked Pique’s last game at Camp Nou.

He will hang up his boots on Tuesday in Pamplona against Real Betis, but Saturday was all about the defender saying goodbye to his family, the Barcelona family, who showered him with countless displays of love.

It’s an emotional moment, one that won’t soon be forgotten by the Camp Nou, as Pique’s words in his farewell were truly emotional.

“First, thank you. To all my teammates, the staff, the people in the gym, the club”, said Pique in his first words after retirement.

“To all those who help us every day to make everything easier. Thank you to the Board for all these years”.

“In life, when you grow up, you realize that sometimes loving means giving up,” says the defender as he begins to cry.

“A relationship with so much love, so much passion, I think it’s time to give each other some space, give each other some air, and I’m convinced that in the future I’ll be here again” .

“I love Barça. That is why I consider it the right moment to go. This is not a goodbye. I was born here, I will die here,” concluded the Barcelona legend.
