An Iowa man broke a Guinness World Record by clapping his hands 1,140 times in one minute.
Dalton Meyer, 20, of Davenport, said his interest in speed clapping began when he was in elementary school and he saw a YouTube video of Kent French, who was once known as the world’s fastest clapper.
“It came naturally to me, like I didn’t even have to practice,” Meyer said, adding, “Really, I just for some reason I don’t know how to do it.”
Meyer revealed that in his attempt to break the record he used the hand clap technique developed by previous Guinness World Record holder Eli Bishop, who achieved 1,103 claps in one minute.
Wrist clapping is a technique that involves using the wrist and fingers to tap the palm of the other hand.
Dalton worked with Charm Media Group in Geneseo, Ill., to make sure his official effort was properly filmed in real time and slow motion, and recorded with the right audio to ensure each of the 19 his applause per second is duly counted by Guinness World Records.
Meyer said the record breaking attempt had been attempted since March, but he didn’t get the official word until Halloween.
