There have been numerous reactions to Sunday’s explosion in Istanbul where six people lost their lives while 81 were injured.
The Secretary General of NATO, Jens Stoltenberg, expressed his condolences to the people affected by this incident, while emphasizing that NATO stands in solidarity with its ally, Turkey.
“Shocking images from Istanbul. My thoughts and deepest condolences to all those affected and to the Turkish people. NATO stands in solidarity with our ally Turkey”, said Stoltenberg.
The High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Policy and Security, Joseph Borrell, reacted similarly to the case, while wishing the injured a speedy recovery.
“Terrible news from Istiklal in Istanbul. Our thoughts are with the people of Turkey and the families of the victims of this afternoon’s attack. I wish the injured a speedy recovery”, declared Borrell.
The Swedish Prime Minister, Ulf Kristersson, also reacted to the case in Turkey, who said that he was shocked by the news about today’s explosion in the heart of Istanbul.
“Our thoughts are with the victims, and with all those who have lost their loved ones. We stand with Turkey,” he said on Twitter.
There was also a reaction from Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, who expressed his condolences to the families of the victims in this incident.
Otherwise, Turkish Vice-President Fuat Oktay officially announced that the incident was a bomb attack. He also stated that the bombing, by an attacker said to be a woman, is now considered a terrorist act.
