Lamborghini‘s first production electric car will arrive in 2028 and its launch will be made possible with technology from the Volkswagen Group.
The brand’s chief executive Stephan Winkleman reiterated that it will not replace any current model lines, something Lamborghini previously confirmed.
He described it as a “fourth model that will be more usable every day. This means a 2+2 car, with two doors with more ground clearance.”
Winkleman also talked about building the car with the help of “synergies from the Volkswagen Group like we already had with the Urus”, which could mean that the car in question will use the Group’s SSP (Scalable Systems Platform), which is currently in development.
Meanwhile, Lamborghini’s chief technical officer at the recent launch of the Urus Performante, explained some of the benefits that Lamborghini’s first electric car will bring.
“Some of our key pillars from a technology point of view fit perfectly into the electric world,” he said, adding, “if we talk about the integration of the carbon fiber function, the integration of the battery as a structural part — that’s something that allows you much more degrees of freedom from a design perspective in terms of aerodynamics”.
Lamborghini will spend 1.8 billion euros on a four-year electrification strategy, which long before the launch of the electric car will bring a hybrid replacement for the Aventador arriving in early 2023, a plug-in hybrid successor Huracan in late 2024 and a plug-in hybrid Urus SUV in the same year, completing the full electrification of the lineup.
