Angela Merkel has been targeted by the German Ministry of Finance for the exorbitant expenses of her office in the Bundestag, attributed to her as a former chancellor.
A government report to the budget committee of the German parliament, according to which the reduction would also affect the number of employees in the office.
It was pointed out to Merkel that her office is only intended to “fulfil post-official obligations” and that it is “excluded from being used for private purposes or to generate additional income”.
Under the objective of the Ministry of Finance, the travel expenses have also been completed, the reimbursement of which is “considered only if the former head of government travels for the account and in the interest of the Federal Republic of Germany”.
Merkel currently has nine assistants, secretaries and drivers, whose salaries cost the treasury about 50,000 euros per month.
