Ukrainians have given wide coverage to Liz Truss’ resignation, saying the “positive side” of the turmoil was that she could be succeeded by Boris Johnson, who is hugely popular in Ukraine.
A great enthusiasm of Ukrainians was seen, making him Ukrainian as they named him “Johnnyuk”, as he is affectionately known in the country.
MP Leonid Yemets wrote that “Boris Johnson is coming back! Just like Churchill in his time! Fingers crossed”, while a journalist said that “I was convinced that everyone would regret the departure of Johnsonyuk. And… that’s exactly what happened.”
Johnson has visited Ukraine several times since the Russian invasion on February 24 of this year.
Notably, he made a surprise trip in June to Ukraine to meet with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.
He also visited Kiev in August, less than two weeks before leaving office.
