The US Air Force in December will introduce the first strategic bomber in 34 years.
We are talking about the B-21 Raider bomber, which was produced by the Northrop Grumman company.
The need for this bomber is a result of the aging of the current bomber fleet, and the development of the air defense system used by adversaries means that less than 10 percent of the fleet is currently capable of avoiding this modern defense.
The capabilities of the known B-1 and B-52 bombers, as well as the B-2 to a certain extent, are not sufficient to provide the range and penetration of the US Air Force.
The B-21’s bomber capabilities are largely shrouded in secrecy, but it is known to be capable of carrying both conventional and nuclear payloads.
The aircraft is manufactured by Northrop Grumman, the same company that produced the B-2 Spirit and supplied the anti-radar system to the F-35 aircraft.
This means the B-21 may have superior stealth capabilities. The US Air Force plans to buy 100 such planes.
