The pensioner tries to set fire to a bank branch in Russia

Pensioner

A pensioner has been arrested by police after allegedly setting fire to a Russian bank in St Petersburg in an apparent protest against the Kremlin’s invasion of Ukraine.

Footage from the scene shows a small fire at the entrance to the Sberbank branch as people stand outside.

Following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, the UK imposed an asset freeze on Sberbank – Russia’s largest lender.

The US also introduced “full blocking sanctions”, which meant that the bank could no longer transact with any American individual or institution.

We remind you that the member states of the European Union have already imposed many economic and political sanctions.

Otherwise, Russia started the invasion of the Ukrainian state on February 24, causing civilian casualties and material damage.
