A copy of Apple’s first-generation iPhone was sold for more than $39,000.
On Sunday, LCG Auctions held an auction where a replica of Apple’s first generation iPhone was sold. The highest bid for a device with 8GB of internal storage was $39,339.60.
When it hit the market in 2007, the first iPhone cost $599, or $852 in today’s value.
Bids quickly rose from $2,500 to five figures. During the day, the collector’s highest bid was just over $10,000, but by evening it had reached a record amount.
The legendary Steve Jobs introduced the iPhone in 2007 and Apple quickly sold millions of copies. The copy sold is in factory condition and is in the original packaging. In addition to the mentioned memory of 8 GB, the device also has a 2 MP camera.
By comparison, the base model of the recently introduced iPhone 14 has 128 GB of internal memory and a 12 MP main camera with an ultra-wide lens.
