Stoltenberg: Putin’s rhetoric is dangerous

The Secretary General of NATO, Jens Stoltenberg, says that the nuclear rhetoric of Russian President Vladimir Putin “is dangerous, reckless and irresponsible”.

Stoltenberg spoke during a visit to the aircraft carrier U.S.S. George H.E. Bush.

The US Department of Defense reports that the ship is participating in a NATO exercise in the Adriatic Sea.

“Russia now falsely claims that Ukraine is preparing to use a radiological bomb on its territory. NATO allies reject this false claim. Russia often accuses others of what it intends to do itself. We’ve seen this happen before, from Syria to Ukraine. Russia must not use false pretexts for further escalation. The world is watching it closely,” Stoltenberg said.

The NATO chief welcomed international sanctions against Iran, saying the country was providing support to Russia’s war effort. He called it “unacceptable”.

His comments came on the same day that Ukraine’s nuclear power operator said Russian forces had carried out secret work at Europe’s largest nuclear power plant.
