The German government will settle a dispute over nuclear power in the coming days.
This is what the German chancellor, Olaf Scholz, has declared.
“We have decided that we will continue to make it possible, especially this winter, to use nuclear power, and this very specific and practical issue will be resolved quickly and in a timely manner by next week,” he said.
The German government on Monday rejected a bill that would have kept two of the country’s last nuclear power plants operating beyond their planned shutdown due to political disputes.
Germany has been forced to consider such measures as the country seeks to reduce its dependence on Russian energy sources.
Otherwise, Germany has greatly reduced its oil and gas purchases by canceling the Nord Stream II project and decommissioning Nord Stream I.
