The Italian energy company ENI has informed that the Russian Gazprom has interrupted the flow of gas.
Italian media say that currently the gas supply from Russia is less than 10 percent.
“Gazprom announced that it cannot provide the required amount of gas. He pointed out that it is not possible to flow gas through Austria. For this reason, the supply of Russian gas to ENI through the entry point Tarvisio will be zero. ENI will carry out renovations if the gas supply is ensured,” said a written statement from ENI.
Even an official from ENI said that as of today Gazprom cannot ensure the gas supply and further added that Austria is supplying gas through Slovakia and that they are in contact with Gazprom for the resumption of gas supply to Italy.
The disruption at the transfer point in Tarvisio will not cause a major change in the current situation.
After the war that Russia started in Ukraine, Italy made efforts to diversify its gas supply. Italy increased its gas purchases with countries such as Algeria and Angola, and since July has reduced its dependence on Russian gas from 40 percent to 25 percent.
