Russian President Vladimir Putin denied on Thursday that he had any intention of using nuclear weapons in Ukraine.
Foreign media reported that the Russian president described the conflict in Ukraine as part of the West’s supposed efforts to secure global dominance, which he insisted are destined to fail.
Speaking at a conference of international foreign policy experts, Putin said it was pointless for Russia to strike Ukraine with nuclear weapons.
“We see no need for this. There is no sense in this, neither political nor military,” Putin said.
On February 24, Putin ordered the Russian military to begin the invasion of Ukraine. Since that time, Ukrainian forces have been fighting with Russian forces to liberate the occupied territories.
