The number of asylum requests presented in the countries of the European Union in July has exceeded 70 thousand for the third month in a row, according to the figures provided by the European Union Agency for Asylum.
According to the report, July’s figures compare with around 51,000 applications submitted in July 2021 and 42,900 submitted in July 2020, Schengen News.info reports.
Citizens of Afghanistan and Syria continue to make up the two largest groups of applicants, while citizens of India and Tunisia have submitted the most registered applications.
Afghans made up the largest group of applicants in July, followed by: Syrians (9,100), Pakistanis (3,800), Turks (3,800), Venezuelans (3,700), Colombians (3,600), Indians (2,900) and Tunisians (2,400).
