In Brazil, voting is underway for the runoff that has as competitors the leader of the left, Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, against the president of the right, Jair Bolsonaro, who is competing for another mandate.
It is about one of the most polarized elections in the history of the South American state, which has restored the appearance of a country divided in two.
“This is the most important day of my life and I think it is the same for the Brazilian people themselves,” Lula declared, after voting in a school in San Bernardo do Campo, in the state of São Paulo.
Meanwhile, his rival expressed his conviction about the victory, which according to him would be in the best interest of Brazil.
“If God wants, tonight we will win. Or more precisely, Brazil will win”, declared Bolsonaro after voting near the Roza da Fonseca school, in an area west of Rio de Janeiro.
Meanwhile, within the electoral process, the Brazilian diaspora also voted in Australia and New Zealand, where Lula won, as well as in Japan, where Bolsonaro was declared the winner.
It is about two very different candidates. Lula is considered as the man who years ago brought the country out of poverty, but who was then involved in the scandal of the oil company “Petrobras”, which cost him several years in prison.
Meanwhile, Bolsonaro is considered the man who did not know how to manage the coronavirus crisis and lost control of the country’s security.
