At least 10 people have died and 60 are missing after a boat capsized in Anambra state in southeastern Nigeria.
National Emergency Service regional coordinator Tikman Tanimu said there were 85 passengers on board and many passengers were trapped when the ship sank.
According to officials, 15 people have been rescued so far.
A former local governor, Afam Ogene, said the accident occurred due to an engine problem shortly after take off.
“It is a ship that can carry more than 100 passengers. Unfortunately, the engine broke down and there was a mess,” said Ogene.
Anambra is among 29 of Nigeria’s 36 states hit by floods this year.
