US General Mark Milley, chief of the General Staff, said the Russian invasion of Ukraine is a military failure, as Moscow’s forces have achieved only “small tactical success in various parts of eastern Ukraine”.
“So far the Russian strategic objectives have been defeated,” Milley told Ukrainian supporters gathered at the US air base in Ramstein, Germany.
“This is because of their failures. And also because of the bravery of … the Ukrainian army, the bravery of the Ukrainian people and the support of the countries that were in the Contact Group today”.
He said that the Ukrainians have hit over 400 targets.
“Russian lines of communication and supply chains are very strained. This has a direct impact on Russia’s ability to project and maintain combat power. Russian command and control at headquarters has been disrupted,” Milley said, adding that Moscow is having “great difficulty resupplying forces and replacing losses in the war.”
The Russian invasion of Ukraine began on February 24.
