Trump wants to negotiate peace between Russia and Ukraine

Former US President Donald Trump suggested on Wednesday that he might lead a team to broker peace between Ukraine and Russia.

Trump referred to the unprecedented leaks in the Nord Stream pipeline as he offered ideas on what could be contributing to the situation.

In his first tweet, Trump claimed the pipeline had been sabotaged, which “could lead to major escalation, or war!”

“The ‘US’ leadership must remain ‘cool, calm’ in the sabotage of the Nord Stream gas pipeline. This is a big event that should not bring a big solution, at least not yet”, wrote the former president.

Trump also repeated his claim that the war in Ukraine would never have happened if he had been president and offered solutions to the situation.

“Don’t make things worse with the pipeline explosion. Be strategic, be smart, get a negotiated deal done NOW,” Trump wrote. “Both sides need and want. The whole world is in danger. Shall I lead the group???”.

Trump’s suggestion that he lead a team to reduce tensions with Russia is in stark contrast to some statements he made in the early days of the war in Ukraine.

In March, Trump said he would send nuclear submarines to go “up and down” Russia’s coast to pressure Russian leader Vladimir Putin.

However, Trump’s comments on Wednesday were not the first time he called on Russia and Ukraine to “figure out” a solution.

In April, he said the two countries should negotiate peace “now – not later – when everyone is DEAD!”.
