A former bodyguard has dismissed claims that King Charles’ security guards used “fake hands”.
His response comes after footage has circulated online purporting to show the King’s personal security officers – as he met with crowds in London – using “rubber hands”.
While people have said they are to be able to use the weapons hidden under their coats, Will Geddes has explained why that can’t be true.
A security expert of nearly 30 years, Will saidthat while it might be a tactic in the US, it would not be used by guards in the UK.
“It’s not a tactic used in the UK at all, there may be all sorts of other tricks and stunts that security officers use to make sure high profile individuals are kept safe, but this would not be a from them”, he is quoted as saying.
“…carrying a gun has potential safety issues in terms of loading the gun and even accidentally firing it.”
“The theory that one might speculate is that it allows the personal protection officer (PPO) to be able to get to his weapon super quickly.”
“But to be honest, it has to be a matter of much better crowd assessment, much better threat assessment, much better event planning or much better footwork.”
“In 30 years of working in the security industry, I have never used rubber hands.”
