After numerous reports that the former commander of the Bosnian Serbs, Ratko Mladic, who is serving a life sentence in The Hague for war crimes, has been hospitalized due to health problems, the Russian Foreign Ministry has reacted.
The spokeswoman of this ministry, Maria Zakharova, has stated that it would be an appropriate decision to release him from prison for humanitarian reasons.
Zakharova’s statements about Bosnian Serb leaders are not rare, and in particular about those who are accused of war crimes.
“We believe that it would be the right decision for the competent mechanisms to release Ratko Mladic for humanitarian reasons,” wrote Zakharova on Twitter.
We recall that Mladic was convicted of war crimes, as he is responsible for the killing of thousands of Bosnian civilians during the war in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
