The European Joint Newsroom (ENR) of 18 news agencies was officially opened today in Brussels by Commission Vice Presidents Margaritis Schinas and Vera Jourova.
ENR was created with the aim of promoting cooperation and exchange of experiences between the correspondents of the agencies participating in the project.
Correspondents will have access to two modernly decorated spaces where they can work. ENR started work already on July 1.
Agencies from 11 EU member states and 5 of the candidate or potential candidate countries participate in the project: AFP (France), ANSA (Italy, AGERPRES (Romania), APA (Austria), ATA (Albania), Belga (Belgium) , BTA (Bulgaria), dpa (Germany), EFE (Spain), Europa Press (Spain), FENA (Bosnia and Herzegovina), HINA (Croatia), MIA (North Macedonia), STA (Slovenia), Tanjug (Serbia) , TASR (Slovakia), PAP (Poland) and Ukrinform (Ukraine).
The management board consists of representatives of the five agencies that form the core of ENR – dpa, AFP, Ansa, Agerpress and Hina.
The latest to join ENR is the Ukrainian news agency Ukrinform, which as a sign of solidarity will not pay fees for access to the joint editorial services.
The Polish news agency PAP later joined the project. The director of dpa, Kropsch announced that three news agencies have joined, for now as observers, with the possibility of joining later. They are the Dutch agency NPA, the Swiss SWI and the Portuguese Lusa
