Authorities in Estonia, Lithuania and Latvia began implementing the decision on Monday to ban Russian and Belarusian citizens from entering the European Union through their territories.
An analogous decision has started to be implemented in Poland and the news has been confirmed by the Foreign Ministries of all four countries.
The measure in question, taken due to the Russian invasion of Ukraine, was agreed upon during talks held last week between officials of the Baltic states and Poland.
A similar restriction has been adopted by the Czech Republic, which will no longer allow Russian and Belarusian citizens holding a regular Schengen visa to enter its territory.
Meanwhile, Denmark and the Netherlands have chosen to stop issuing short-term visas to citizens from these two countries, although they will not stop the entry of those already in possession of a regular visa.
The measures have been taken individually by these countries, as the member countries of the European Union have been divided regarding such an initiative.
A few weeks ago, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz declared that the war in Ukraine, the main motive for the imposition of restrictions, was a war loved by President Putin and not by Russian citizens.
