Devastating storm Fiona has left half a million Canadians without power, uprooting trees, overturning roads and destroying the beautiful Newfoundland town of Port aux Basques.
The category five cyclone, as it is now being described by the national hurricane center, has hit the coasts of Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Islands, New Bronzeweek and Newfoundland, where winds are blowing at a speed of 120 kilometers per hour, causing 470 thousand houses remain without electricity.
“We are seeing terrifying images coming from Port aux Basques. The Prince Edward Islands suffered unprecedented storm damage. Cape Branton has also been hit, as has Quebec,” Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said.
Bad weather will continue to reign in the coming days in Canada, where it will then move towards Greenland and is expected to disappear by the end of next week.
The storm hit the houses, destroying them and sending them towards the sea, while many tall buildings were covered by the rubble.
“I’m telling you, it’s horrible there,” a Canadian citizen told local media.
On the other hand, the local authorities ordered the evacuation of all residents living near the sea, fearing that they may suffer with their lives.
