In the eyes of tens of thousands of people, the coffin with the lifeless body of Queen Elizabeth II arrived on Monday afternoon at the final residence, Windsor Castle.
The monarch will be buried in a private ceremony at St George’s Church, next to her husband, the Duke of Edinburgh.
Earlier, about 800 guests attended the religious service.
Members of the royal family, including King Charles III and Prince William, were in attendance at Windsor Castle as the coffin was transported.
Monday was also the culmination of a historic day, during which the royal family was surrounded by around 500 foreign leaders and officials at the mass held at Westminster Abbey, not forgetting the hundreds of thousands of people who lined the streets of London.
Among those who attended the ceremony were the former prime ministers of Great Britain who are still alive, who served during the 7-decade reign of Elizabeth II, the longest-serving monarch in the history of the United Kingdom.
Current Prime Minister Liz Truss read a passage of scripture during the mass.
After the service, the Queen’s coffin was carried to Windsor Castle, passing through the streets of London.
Elizabeth’s coffin now sits in the royal vault of Saint George’s Chapel, in the castle garden outside London.
