Immigration rules will be eased in the UK as part of Prime Minister Liz Truss’s mission to ease labor shortages and boost the country’s economy.
Truss has faced industry demands for more migrant workers to be given visas to come to Britain, as labor shortages are one of the main concerns expressed by employers in a number of sectors.
During her Tory leadership campaign, Truss promised to tackle labor shortages in agriculture, caused in part by restrictions on freedom of movement after Brexit and exacerbated by the pandemic.
A recent government report warned that such shortages were negatively affecting the food and agriculture sector.
The government is expected to set out its plan for migration reform later this year.
