A man, a woman and three children were found dead Friday morning in a home in Elk Mills, the Cecil County Sheriff’s Office in the US state of Maryland said.
Cops responded at 9:20 a.m. to a home near Hebron Court after a man told 911 that three children and a woman had been shot and killed.
Officials said the call was “very short” and the man hung up. Numerous calls to the apartment went unanswered. A code yellow was activated for four nearby schools, which is a heightened state of awareness.
Upon arrival, deputies found a man dead in a detached garage with a semi-automatic handgun next to him, officials said. The police then entered the house, where they found the woman shot on the first floor and the three children shot upstairs.
All victims were pronounced dead at the scene.
The victims remain unidentified as police have not been able to notify the man’s relatives. An official said the children were in 5th, 7th and 8th grade.
The sheriff’s office said they found no history of calls to the residence. A search and seizure order was executed in the apartment and investigations are ongoing.
