China’s reputation in Germany, the United States and other developed countries has fallen drastically under the leadership of Xi Jinping, according to a study conducted by the Pew Research Center.
Surveys and data analysis by Pew have shown that public opinion of China in developed countries has become “much more negative” during Xi’s 10 years in office.
Among the key concerns for China are human rights policies, military power and economic power.
Xi aims to win a third term as leader of the Communist Party at a Congress starting in Beijing on October 16.
This Congress is held every five years. It has been apparent to some that Xi will use this meeting to secure another term as General Secretary of the party, thereby expanding his power.
In November of last year, the Communist Party paved the way for him to remain party leader for almost his entire life.
Through a “historic resolution”, the Central Committee has assessed that it is very important for the party to maintain “Xi’s role at the core of the party”.
The Pew Research Center has also highlighted China’s unfavorable approach in South Korea, and that the situation is changing in Australia as well.
As for Japan, Pew said that views of China in the country have been negative “throughout the last decade.”
