Parts of Pakistan are looking like a “sea”, said the Prime Minister of Pakistan, Shehbaz Sharif, during the visit he made on September 7 to some of the parts hit by the floods.
Floods in Pakistan have covered almost a third of this country with water, as the number of victims has reached 1,343.
33 million people out of a population of 220 million were affected by the floods. The disaster has been blamed on climate change, as hundreds of thousands of people have been left homeless, and Pakistani authorities have estimated the damage caused by the floods to be at least $10 billion.
“You cannot believe the scale of destruction that is here,” Sharif told media after visiting the southern province of Sindh. “There is water everywhere, as far as the eye can see. It’s just like the sea.”
The Pakistani government has given cash to families of flood victims totaling $313.90 million. The executive has also pledged to buy tents for the displaced families, Sharif said.
