Over 1,000 people were arrested on Wednesday evening in Russia during protests against the military mobilization decree issued by President Putin.
Several thousand were the citizens who demonstrated in different areas of the country, to show their rejection of the Kremlin’s plans for war.
The protests have been held through small gatherings, during which anti-war slogans have been raised. For its part, the police intervened immediately.
“We should have thought of it before. The worst has already happened”, says a woman.
“We are not afraid! We hate this regime because it wants to take the lives of our children. My son is 18 years old and I don’t want him to die,” says another.
According to the data of some non-governmental organizations, demonstrations have taken place in at least 38 cities of the country, including Moscow, St. Petersburg, Yekaterinburg.
The largest number of arrests was verified in the capital, over 300 cases, and Saint Petersburg, 287 cases.
The arrested persons risk up to 15 years in prison on charges of discrediting the armed forces and spreading false news about the Russian military operation in Ukraine.
