The Saudi court has sentenced another woman to 45 years in prison because of a post made on social networks, a non-governmental organization that deals with human rights has announced.
Nourah al-Qahtani was jailed only because she used the Internet to share an opinion, and thus “undermined public order,” DAWN said in a statement.
Al-Qahtani was arrested in Saudi Arabia in July of last year, and within a few months the verdict was pronounced.
A similar action happened a month ago to another Saudi woman – Salma al-Shehab, who was sentenced to 34 years in prison just for posting an opinion on Twitter.
And these actions of the Saudis are being harshly criticized by the western world, in particular because of the suppression of free thought, a right guaranteed by the constitution and international conventions.
