Taiwan retaliates against China, raises warplanes.
Taiwan quickly raised fighter jets as a warning sign of 27 Chinese planes that violated Taiwanese airspace, the country’s defense ministry said.
In the latest update, the ministry said 22 of the planes had crossed the median line of the Taiwan Strait, which separates the self-ruled island from China.
Taiwan, which China claims as its territory, said it sent planes and deployed missile systems to “monitor” Chinese activities in its air defense identification zone.
The latest Chinese mission included 17 Chinese Su-30 fighter jets and 11 other aircraft, Taiwan’s defense ministry added.
Taiwan’s security planning said the 22 planes that crossed the median line did not fly too far into the unofficial buffer from the Chinese side. Neither side’s planes normally cross the median line.
The move comes after Taiwan said some of China’s military actions around Taiwan were within 12 nautical miles of the coast.
