Swedish Prime Minister Magdalena Andersson promised a new aid package to Kiev during a press conference with Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba in Stockholm on Monday.
The package includes military aid worth 500 million kroner ($46.8 million), as well as the same amount for the reconstruction of Ukraine.
“Sweden will continue to be a close friend and support Ukraine”, Andersson was quoted as saying.
Swedish Foreign Minister Ann Linde, who was also present at the press conference, added: “We don’t know how long Russia’s war will last, but Sweden is ready to provide long-term support to Ukraine.”
Ukraine’s Kuleba used his visit to Stockholm to thank Swedish leaders for what the country has done since Russia launched its aggression on Ukraine in February, but also to ask for continued support.
“As long as the war continues, we will ask for more weapons,” Kuleba emphasized.
The renewed commitment comes after reports indicated that military support from major European powers, such as Germany and France, has slowed in recent months, while Ukraine is said to be preparing for a counter-attack.
